Morticia Knight Asks – Are Sex Club Members Bad LTR Prospects?

Hi everyone! I’m very excited to welcome Morticia Knight back to my blog. She has a spicy new release entitled Lust Emergency! Read on for her discussion about romance and an excerpt.

lustemergency_800Are Sex Club Members Bad LTR Prospects?

Jackson, the thirty-eight year-old ER doctor from my new MM erotic romance – Lust Emergency- wonders that exact thing. He’s only had one LTR, and that was with his partner Walter, who sadly died two years before. In his grief, he relocated to a new city, and has kept to himself, not dating, not allowing himself to consider any possibilities. Until now.

LTR’s are dicey things, yet they’re the subject of every single romance story – regardless of the genre. Sure – romance books are all about love – but loving someone and being able to maintain that relationship over a long period of time are two completely different things. I’m sure most of you can relate to that – I know it’s been all too true for me! So whenever I’m writing a new tale of two characters (or sometimes three or four *wink*), the best part of weaving that story is dealing with all of the dilemmas that come with forging a realistic LTR.

In the following excerpt, Terrence, the exotic paramedic that has sparked Jackson’s interest, is about to make a startling frank confession. Will this be a deal-breaker for the doctor?

“…Enough about me. What was it you wanted to say to  me?”

The look on Terrence’s face made Jackson’s stomach flutter a little, but not in a good way. He had that slight dread feeling that he might not like what he was about to hear.

Terrence let out a long sigh. “Yeah. So here’s the thing. I like you a lot. But since the thing with Cory, I haven’t wanted to get into any sort of one-on-one thing either. But I’m a big horn dog—really big horn dog.”

Jackson’s heart sank. “Are you saying that all you’re interested in is a sex thing?”

Terrence shook his head vehemently. “Oh, man, I knew I would fuck this up. Let me tell you everything first.”

“Of course, go ahead.”

“What I’m saying is that’s how I felt before, the way you have.” He chuckled a little. “I’m not saying I’m not horny as hell still, but I’m looking at my choices and behaviours, and rethinking what I want in life. And what I want now is something real, not just a playtime fuck. Which brings me to that club I was telling you about.”

“Oh?” Jackson had a bad feeling about where all of this was going.

“Yeah. You see, there’s this place in Phoenix called Sinsation”—Terrence shifted in his seat—“and it’s a, you know, uh, a sex club.” Terrence winced, and paused.

The place Dakota mentioned?

“Wow.” Jackson hadn’t been prepared to hear that, but he was trying to keep an open mind. “So… What exactly happens at this sex club?” His mind latched onto hundreds of different scenarios—none of them good.

“It’s primarily a gay hangout. And on the gay nights, I go there and drink, dance to some music, hang out with some friends I’ve made there…”

Jackson felt some relief. That wasn’t so bad. “That’s nothing. Why shouldn’t you go out and enjoy yourself? It’s not as if you’ve been with anyone.”

“Well, there’s more. Much more.”

Jackson had that sinking feeling again.

“Look, Doc, I don’t want you to think badly of me. But I think it’s important that I let it all hang out. I don’t want it to come back and bite me in the ass down the road, you dig?”

Terrence was trying to be honest, and that said something.

“I understand. You’re right. Go on.”

“Okay, so this is the thing. There’s this one guy named Marcus who has been—and I emphasise has been—my main fuck-buddy there.”

Jackson tried not to show any reaction to what Terrence was saying.

“And there is this downstairs area that you have to be a member of, or you can pay for a one-time visit… Well, anyway, that’s where everyone goes to get it on.”

“Get it on?”

“All right, I won’t sugar-coat it. Everyone fucks whoever they want. There are themed rooms and other…amenities such as a BDSM section. You can go there and hook up with whoever, and do whatever.”

It’s the ‘whatever’ that has me concerned.

“And this is safe?”

“That’s just it, Doc. That’s what attracted me to it. After the whole Cory thing, I was scared to go out with strangers. Everyone gets tested there regularly, we all use condoms, and there are bouncers to make sure nothing gets out of hand. Yes. I felt safe there.”

“And now how do you feel about it?”

Terrence buried his face in his hands, shaking his head. He looked back up at Jackson.

“It served a purpose for me, and I’m not going to lie and say I didn’t have a good time—a great time even. But I have different priorities now, and I really want to let go of that lifestyle, and get with one man that I can share my life with. I learned my lesson with Cory. Having an open relationship doesn’t work. But I’m done with all of that now. I swear.”

Jackson didn’t know what to say. He couldn’t picture himself in a million years going to a place like that, but was it his place to judge someone who did? And Terrence had sworn he was done with that lifestyle and that club. Could he believe him?

“Do I disgust you?”

Terrence looked so sad, and Jackson frowned. “Of course not. Come here.” Jackson held his arms open. “Can I hold you?”

“Oh, thank you for understanding,” Terrence said with obvious relief, and collapsed in Jackson’s embrace.

They held each other in silence, and Jackson inhaled Terrence’s scent. It was musky with a hint of vanilla. Sweet and delectable. He found himself stroking Terrence’s back, and considered how much courage it must have taken the young man to open up to him. He lowered his head and nuzzled Terrence’s neck, holding him tighter with a sense of urgency. He grabbed the tip of Terrence’s earlobe with his lips and suckled it into his mouth. Terrence arched into him and moaned. Jackson poked his tongue into Terrence’s ear, teasing it, whilst he used his hands to squeeze and caress Terrence’s body. The young man touched him in return, sliding his hands along Jackson’s loose pants to stroke his thighs. When Terrence bent his head back to give Jackson more access to his throat, he kept his tongue in motion, lapping at Terrence, hungry with his desire.

He stopped to cradle the back of Terrence’s head, and looked into his eyes. He latched onto Terrence’s mouth, kissing him deeply, delighting in how wonderful he tasted. Terrence enthusiastically gave back, drawing first one lip, then another of Jackson’s into his own mouth. The heat built between them, and Jackson was incredibly hard, wanting urgently to just let go. Terrence slid a probing hand up the inside of Jackson’s thigh, and Jackson knew Terrence was just about to find out how turned on he really was. Jackson abruptly pulled away.

Terrence looked stricken. “What’s wrong?”

Jackson slowed his breathing that had been building with his desire. “Nothing’s wrong. I just don’t know if I’m ready…”

My Guest Tara Lain Presents New Release Cataclysmic Shift + Contest

Today on the blog, I have Tara Lain! She has a wonderful new book. Check out the trailer below! Also…there’s a contest – info at the bottom 🙂

Hi everyone. I’m so happy to be here with Malia today to celebrate the release of my new book, Cataclysmic Shift. I’m Tara Lain and I write the Beautiful Boys of Romance. Cataclysmic Shift is a MM paranormal and is part of the Aloysius Tales, Aloysius being a black cat and witch’s familiar.  I know if you’ve followed my blogs over the last couple years, you’ve heard me talk about how much I love creating book titles. They’re organic to me. If I don’t have a title I love, it’s actually hard for me to write the book, and sometimes the titles precede the book and helps suggest the plot.

TL_SpellCat_coverinThe Aloysius Tales have also been a labor of title love. The first book, Spell Cat, was created because I wanted to write a book that involved a black cat. Cats suggest witches (at least to me). So I decided to write a witch book–but it would be about a male witch, a great witch master who has a black cat who is his familiar. But the witch is also a teacher. The book just had to be called — Spell Cat.

For the next story, I decided to write about Sammy, a character introduced in Spell Cat. Sammy is a witch whose power is prophetic painting. Sammy finds himself the focus of friendship for Aloysius, the spell cat of the previous book, and together, along with the man Sammy loves, they have to fight a huge threat to all witchery. The word Catastrophe kept playing in my mind because of the cat, Aloysius.  One morning I literally sat up in bed and thought painter! Yes, paint brush! Brush with Catastrophe.

When I decided to write a third Aloysius Tale, I knew it had to star Aloysius, the black cat. But a cat who doesn’t speak is a difficult character.  So early on I decided I would shift my cat into a human, at least for part of the story. There seemed only one possible title for such a book. Way before I set fingers to keyboard, I knew I had to call the book Cataclysmic Shift!

I’ve included an excerpt from the new book. And I hope you’ll take a moment and enter my prize drawing on the Rafflecopter below. Thanks so much for coming by!

CATACLYSMIC SHIFT by Tara Lain; A Cat Falls in Love with His Vet

Available at Loose Id     Amazon     ARe

TL_AT_3_cataclysmicshift_coverinSuper cat, Aloysius, may be the most powerful witch’s familiar in the world, but when he takes a blast at the hand of an evil witch he loses it all — power, memory, and his feline form — to become the ethereal human beauty, Alain Bellarose. When Alain wakes up naked on the floor surrounded by dogs and cats, his eyes first set upon Luke Elliott, the handsome and mysterious veterinarian.  Suddenly, the prospect of being human doesn’t seem so bad. Luke has a lot to hide and he likes animals way more than people, but he can’t resist the flamboyant boy who washes his face with the side of his hand and tries to lick his own privates!  The loss of Aloysius depletes the power of the Witch Master, Killian Barth, and that of his “secret weapon” Sammy and leaves their coven sitting ducks for two very nasty females. When Alain discovers that he’s really a powerful cat, he’s faced with the ultimate choice. To protect his community, or stay with the man he loves.

Luke bunched the pillow under his head and stared into the dark. Maybe Alain was a street kid and didn’t want to go back to it. He could be faking the whole amnesia bit just to have a roof over his head and some food. But that didn’t quite make sense. Luke had known a lot of street kids over the years, and Alain was nothing like them. Not defensive or suspicious at all. And tomorrow Luke would have him as a new helper at the clinic.

He blew out his breath. What the hell was he doing? In the middle of his very private life, he now had a roommate. Not just a roommate, but one who worked with him, and every company in the world said not to mix business and personal. Was it temporary? How the hell would Alain ever earn enough money as a vet’s assistant and gofer to find a place to live in New   York City? Jesus, what had he done? The guy was so nice and so easy to take care of. Maybe that was the ploy? He was a con artist. Right. What the hell did Luke have to con?

He hurled himself on his side and punched his pillow. If the kid wanted to rob him, he wouldn’t have spent the damned day redecorating like Martha Stewart came to visit.

Shitfire. He’d done himself in. Sleep now, and tomorrow he’d figure out how to undo what he’d done.

* * * *

Where the hell was that coming from? He wasn’t at work.

Tiny daggers dug into Luke’s bare shoulder. “Ow. Amelia?” The kitten made a leap from his shoulder to the bed in front of him. “How did you get—” His breath stopped.

The covers behind him rose. Draft. A body pressed down on the mattress. Then the draft went away. He knew just whose body it was. Holy shit, what was going on? “Uh, Alain?”

“What are you doing?”

“We were lonely.”

Speechless. This kid could not be for real. He had to have a ploy. The kitten insinuated her way between his hands and his chest, gave a sigh bigger than she was, and curled into a ball against his skin.

Behind him, skin pressed against his back. Oh, dear God. Tell me it’s his shoulder and not his, uh, front.

If someone touched him, he’d shatter. That was how rigid Luke felt. So this was the kid’s plan. Be a rent boy for Luke so he’d have a place to live and food to eat. Luke had even given him a job. But how could he blame him? Luke knew what it was like to have no home and no one to care about you. And he knew what it was to be somebody’s rent boy.

How would he tell Alain to go away? That he didn’t take advantage of young guys and he had no interest in a sexual liaison with him? Shit, that was such a lie. If that kitten moved down a few inches, she’d be lying on the most rigid cock on the planet. All Luke wanted was to turn over and shove that thing right into the cute asshole he’d seen displayed at the clinic. But it wasn’t gonna happen. Sorry, kid.

“It would be better if you went back to your room.”

Nothing—except the warmth against his on-fire skin. He listened. All he heard was breathing. He was afraid to move.

The kid might get the wrong idea. If Luke picked up the kitten, he could jump out of the bed and throw Alain out. Nicely. Of course, the kitten would wail, and that would lose him some credibility.

“Alain. Please go back to your room.”

A sound. No, two sounds. From in front of him came purring. From the back? The soft snuffle of a snore.

Author Morticia Knight Talks Love and Acceptance Along With New Release, Set Ablaze

setablaze_800I’m so pleased to welcome Morticia Knight to the blog! She has great story featuring firefighters! I read the excerpt…loved it. Check it out below.

In my new book, “Set Ablaze”, Fire Chief Eric is coming out of the closet after twenty years of marriage. He’s been raised conservatively, and he’s never had any male relationships. He’s certainly never been out in the open about his sexual preferences. However, once he told his wife, she shouted it all over the town. He’s had no choice but to face varying degrees of acceptance, combined with downright hostility. When he meets the new recruit, Tom, he’s confused over how to handle his feelings, and what constitutes appropriate romantic behavior when courting a man. Throw in a spate of arson fires, and Eric is under a lot of pressure. Will it prevent him from seeking love with Tom, the sexy new firefighter?

I like Eric, and I definitely enjoyed writing him. He doesn’t curse, he’s respectful, and when he crosses sexual boundaries at work he is mortified by his own behavior. What is interesting to me is that so many people want to judge someone over their sexual preference as opposed to their actions, yet some of these same people do plenty of other things that are morally reprehensible. Such as holding hate in their hearts. And when I talk about sexual preferences – I don’t just mean whether someone identifies as gay – hetero couples who engage in responsible BDSM practices are judged as well, along with all other manner of expressions of love.

The recent outpouring of support with people changing their avatars at Facebook has been very heartening. I know I’m not going to change anyone’s outlook in a simple blog post, or even in one book. But the more authors, artists, filmmakers, musicians and others who contribute to the ideal of love healing all – the more of a chance we all have of finding love and acceptance.

The following is an excerpt from Set Ablaze when Eric finally signs the divorce papers from his twenty year marriage:

Eric put his signature on the last of the divorce settlement papers, and slowly—almost reverently—put them back in the envelope. He would give them back to Charlene in the morning.

“Why don’t we wait?” he had pleaded with her. “Matthew will be headed to ASU in the fall. Can’t we just keep our family together for a little while longer?”

“Fuck you, Eric,” was all she’d had to say.

After twenty years of marriage and raising a wonderful son, that was all he warranted, a ‘fuck you’? He wanted to punch their marriage counsellor in the face. The counsellor had been the one who had encouraged ‘complete and open honesty, no matter how it might hurt’. Yeah. Great. Telling his wife he was, and always had been, swinging for the same team had been a wonderful move. That had really worked out well. She’d initiated the divorce proceedings that night, but not before she’d accused him of a countless number of things that were absolutely not true. She’d slapped him, saying that she’d have to get screened for ‘gay diseases’, and that she knew that he’d been cheating on her all those years. She’d even started accusing some of his straight friends of being his secret lovers.

“I knew it!” she’d screeched at him. “My mom warned me from the beginning! All those camping and fishing trips! Just excuses to go away with your boyfriends, just like in that stupid movie!”

His head had been spinning. She had yelled so many outrageous things. There had been one affair in high school that he’d thought he’d hidden well, but Charlene’s brother knew about it and had blabbed to her parents. Being young and scared, he’d lied and told her none of it was true. He couldn’t tell her the truth. She never would have married him. The unfortunate reality was that he never should have married her—it had been wrong to mislead her the way he had. He had never been attracted to women, but he came from a family that would have had a fit and cast him out if he hadn’t married and led a ‘normal’ life. How could he regret his son, though? He didn’t, and he actually really did love Charlene, just not in the way she needed and deserved.

Yes, it was the right thing to do ultimately. Maybe the asshole counsellor had been on point after all. Sighing, he put the envelope in his desk drawer, and focused his mind back on the other issues he was dealing with. He had a firefighter out with a broken ankle, and a temporary replacement coming in. He also had a meeting with the arson investigators at four o’clock—just fifteen minutes away—to discuss their latest findings on the arson fires that had been plaguing the town recently.
