My New Year’s Memory

I’ve had to think long and hard about a favorite New Year’s memory. I don’t usually do up this holiday much and in my family it tends to be a day for rest, relaxation and recovery from the earlier holidays.

However, I do have some interesting memories regarding my first New Year’s in Hawaii. I moved here from New York. Yes, the city. The ball dropping, the huge celebration, the whole thing. I will admit that in fifteen years of living in NYC, I never once, ever went to Times Square for the celebration. Cold and crowded was all I ever thought when I considered it, though I’m sure many people had an enjoyable time.

In Hawaii, things are a bit different. One major difference is fireworks are legal. I never lived anywhere before where they were. Not only is some pretty major firepower available at your local grocery, bringing in illegal aerials and such is big business here. They bring them in by the container load.

People don’t even really wait for New Year’s. From a couple days before to a couple days after, the sound and smoke of fireworks fills the air.

Now I’ll admit, the first time it was rather interesting. I never had blown up so much cool stuff before. I’m a closet pyro at heart I guess.

Best wishes for the New Year!

Please enjoy an excerpt from my newest release, Mia’s Cop Craving.

He brushed her lips with his. “Mmmm, you’d better point me to a flat surface.”

Her hand fluttered in the direction of the hallway and she gasped as he swept his arm under her knees and picked her up. His legs covered the distance quickly, and it barely seemed a blink before they were in her bedroom.

Lights from the street bathed the room in a slight glow and Rogan laid her on the coverlet. He smoothed her hair back from her face and climbed onto the mattress beside her.

“Mia,” he whispered, “tell me what happens in your fantasy.”

She smiled as she remembered the dream details. “You take off my clothes, though you’ve taken care of most of them.”

“I’m happy to oblige.” He reached for her bra, unhooked the front fastener and loosened the cups, revealing smooth, creamy skin. He pushed the straps off her shoulders and she sat up a bit so she could pull out her arms.

Mia eyed his shirt. “It hardly seems fair that you’re wearing so much.”

“You’re right.” He stood by the bed and her eyes drank him in while he removed the rest of his uniform. Button by button, he opened his shirt exposing a well-muscled chest with more than just a sprinkling of dark, coarse hair.

The story is awesome! Also blowing stuff up for the first time is always fun even if it is on a small scale hehehe. I live in Vegas and I avoid the strip like the plague so I can’t say I blame you for not doing the time square thing at New Years. Just seems like a lot of hassle. Thank you for the giveaway 🙂

  8. Hello, I just received your e-mail about the blot hop and decided that since the last one was so much fun, I would enter this one. I have read some of your books and enjoyed them, so thanks again for the links. My New Years experiences, in my younger days, always centered around excessive drinking and wild parties. Half of them are a blur, but now that I am married I have settled down a lot. It’s about time, now that I’m in my forties. However, if I was young again, I would probably do it all over again. Thanks again and Happy New Year. Arthur. highwayman99c@Aol.com

  13. I was lucky enought to be able to be in Hawaii 18 years ago for New Years. It was very memorable for me, and the fireworks are what I remember most about that also. Seemed to be an allnighter of lights, booms and bangs. The only weird thing was seeing Christmas lights on the palm trees. Being from MN, it’s strange seeing Christams lights without snow!

I have read a couple of your books, looking forward to reading more, very HOT!!

Thanks for the chance to win.

    Happy New Year!

  14. We used to have “Captain America” living across the street from us. Every holiday he’d be setting off fireworks starting at dawn which were illegal. We would take delight on calling the police (watching from the window as they came) at midnight and saying enough is enough.

Why the police didn’t come or anyone else complain earlier, I don’t know.

I’ve been to HI a couple of times, but never for a holiday. One year I’ll get there for Christmas.

My very pregnant friend came over, mind you she was due ANY time. But she decided that she wanted to play The Michael Jackson just dance on my Wii. Well that girl fricken rocked it!! It was the most disturbing and funniest thing I’ve ever seen. Her getting down to dirty Diana. The baby came on Jan. 3 so no luck getting it to pop out that night! LOL

  51. One of my fav New Year’s Eve was when I was in the Navy and me and my roommates invited about 100 people over and they all showed up and brought more guests. It was everything you can imagine it would of having that many sailors in one place. It wasn’t much longer after many of us shipped out to Iraq.

  52. We usually spend the evening inside with family and friends, lots of good eats…playing cards (poker) and listening to music until the ball’s about to drop. Then the wine is poured, toasts made, kisses shared…and then the party usually continues for a little while longer. Those that drank a little too much, or came without a designated driver snuggle in for the night…that’s just how we play. Better safe than sorry. 🙂 Happy 2012!

  54. I love staying at home for the new years and thanks for the excerpt!

  55. Y2K was the most memorable for me. I got to spend it with my husband, brothers, father and step mom. We went to a party for New Years eve and went to the Rose Parade for New Years Morning. We got to sit in the stands to watch the parade, got a continental breakfast before the parade, a hot brunch after the parade, and a souvenir of the occasion. It was the best time of all since my brother, father and step mom all lived in Texas and I live in Pasadena, CA. It was my first time going to the parade where I didn’t have to camp on the street just to save a place to see the parade. Let me tell you, that’s not something you want to do unless you are young. It gets way too cold for these old bones. LOL

Happy New Year and thanks for the chance to win such a great prize.

  70. Thank you for a chance at this giveaway! I feel bad about posting basically the same thing so far on 3 separate blogs, but this is really the best “memory” I have:

It’s not really a “memory,” but it’s a tradition that I still follow from back in my home country of Brazil. For New Years, the color of your clothing represents what you want for the new year. For example, many Brazilians wear white for peace and inner calm, but you see a few wearing red for passion or pink for love, some wear green in hopes of earning more that year as well. Every year i’m excited to see what colors people decide to wear on New Years, and I love getting together at the end of the year to see if their wishes came true.
