The ABCs of Erotica

Welcome to our Black Friday blog hop! See below for the huge list of prizes!

One random commenter (can be on any of the blogs) will win a Kindle Fire! Other prizes will also be awarded (listed below). That’s the easiest kind of shopping I can think of…

——–

eReaders are no longer in the realm of a techie gadget. They’ve gone mainstream. Even my mother has an eReader. This year, with the launch of the Kindle Fire and the Nook Tablet from Barnes & Noble, there are more choices than ever.

I personally have a Kindle, an iPod touch and an iPad.  I read on all of them. I will admit though to being quite partial to the iPod touch because it fits in my pocket. I find the iPad a little heavy and now that I’m used to a touch screen, I keep trying to touch my Kindle to make it do things and well, that doesn’t work on my model.

If you haven’t gotten an eReader yet and are in the market, what do you do? How do you choose with so many?  There are many factors to consider. Do you want a unitasker? That is to say, do you want to be able to do something besides read books? Do you want to listen to music, watch movies or use applications? Maybe you already have those bases covered.

Cost is also another consideration. You would never buy an iPad for just reading books. That is serious overkill not to mention expensive. You can get a budget Kindle for $79 while the least powerful iPad is hitting $500. This doesn’t even consider the Sony eReader or the Kobo Vox, which while good choices, could be a bit more limiting in content than a Kindle or Nook. However, if you are outside the United States, the Kobo might be a choice worth considering as they are bigger in foreign markets and set to continue expanding.

Dedicated eReaders hold a great deal of material. They also tend to be the best suited for reading with special screens made just for that purpose. They also hold a charge for a very long time. These are all good reasons to consider a no-frills eReader if it meets your needs.

This holiday season, buyers have been presented with even more choices. We now have something between the dedicated eReader and a higher end device like an iPad. We have the Kindle Fire from Amazon and the Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet. The Kindle Fire retails for $199 with a seven inch color touchscreen. The new Nook Tablet is a bit more at $249. Both run Android OS. The Nook Tablet has a longer battery life and advertises more memory at 16GB. The Kindle Fire has 8GB. The Nook can be expanded with an SD card.

However, though the Nook seems to have more space, it only allows 1GB to be used for non-purchased content. That would mean if you want to transfer more than one movie or quite a bit of music, you would need the SD card.

The Kindle Fire allows utilization of Amazon’s cloud service for music, movies etc. Barnes & Noble went another way, partnering with Netflix and others to provide content.

So, if you are buying and eReader for yourself or someone else this holiday season, you have a lot of choices at a variety of price points. The time has never been better to pick up that long-wanted eReader.

Comments on: "Black Friday Blog Hop-So You Want to Buy an eReader" (100)

  1. There are absolutely lot of choices when selecting an ereader. I purchased my Nook about 2 years go, so its the one just before the Color Nook came out, wish I would have waited a few months because it seemed to be out just as I was getting used to my Nook. Anyway, I like it a lot, used it on my work travels and take it wherever I can. I have also recently acquired the HP Touchpad, it comes with the Kindle app, and I like using that too (so if I won the contest I probably would pass this one down to my sister and keep my winnings!). So it may just come down to what format you want your books, your storage space (like you mentioned). Lots of choices for sure 🙂 Thanks for being part of the Blog Hop!

  8. There are so many choices. I have been looking at several tablets. Not sure yet which one I really want. I like the Kindle Fire just because I love Amazon. I like that B&N teamed up with Netflix that is something I didn’t know.

I have a nook color which is about a year old. I adore it but would like the Fire since it has that Amazon cloud connection which we use all the time for movies and it would be nice to add books to that. My husband and kid asked why I need both and I said, “why do you both need an Xbox 360 and a Wii and a Playstation 3?”–they left me alone after that. 🙂

    jay9moore@gmail.com

  10. I have the kindle with the keyboard from last year and I love it but I really want the kindle fire just to be able to play on it. I agree I can’t afford and Ipad the things are way to expensive and honestly I would rather have a new desktop then the ipad lol.

I find I like to read on my iPad because of the backlight. I think that is what I would really like about the Kindle FIre.

  14. Great information about ereaders. My hubby has a nook and I have a kindle. We both like what we have and although both have their limits, they work great for us!

    Thank you for the giveaway!

  15. I don’t know what I ever did without my Kindle!! I love it. I do believe it has become an extension of my body. Two of my children want them for Christmas this year, and I won’t hesitate to get them for them. I have been slowly acquiring books from amazon for them when they are free for a short time.

This is such a great blog hop, Thank you!

    mnjcarter@charter.net

  16. The prices for ereaders have really dropped the past few years. I bought a Sony Reader 2 years ago because it was on sale and I have a coupon for it. It was an older model but it met my purpose at the time. I gave my mother a Nook last year and she loves it. I’m giving my father an ereader this year; not sure which one, yet though.

    Thanks,

  24. I have one of the older Kindles and love it, but as with all electronics, I covet the newer models. LOL!
My son has an iPad, and since I have a great laptop, I just can’t justify buying one for myself, not to mention the still pretty expensive price tag.
The Kindle Fire makes me “oooh and ahhhh” like a little kid at the toy store! Hehehe!

  26. I have a kindle! Love it and the way it reads! It’s easy and portable! And it keeps the number of books in the home to a minimal number! The kindle fire would be the cherry on the top!

  27. I appreciate your sharing some of the pros and cons of eReaders. There seem to be so many to choose from these days – it’s important to know what they will and won’t do before making a final selection.

  42. Online shopping is the way for me. No lines, no stress, no traffic. I did Black Friday once, not knowing the whole concept of it and it was an interesting experience. But nowadays, it is getting more violent as the years go by. So, I might consider myself being a coward but I see it more as being safe than sorry.

  46. I absolutely love my kindle (though I would REALLY love a kindle fire)- I looked at the market systems when selecting the kindle and really bought a lot of books from amazon beforehand so it made sense.

    mconnolley@yahoo.com

  47. There are so many options now like you said. And the price is also a factor. Just when I think I’ve made a decision as which ereader I’d like, something new is introduced. What to do, what to do?? But if I can win one, that would help with the decision, right? And you can’t be free!!!

  48. So many choices! I love my Kindle 2 but really want to give the Kindle touch or Fire a try. My son-in-law has asked Santa for a Fire for Christmas. Maybe I’ll win him one. LOL

  51. I definitely agree – those are excellent points! I would love to have an ipad, and I hear the new ones will have a retina display. I don’t know if my eyes can handle that much awesome, but I’d love to give it a try! ;D
I actually don’t have an ereader. :X Last year someone very generously – and incredibly – emailed me to say they wanted to gift me a refurbished (?) 1st gen… and I was extremely grateful and took it – but my sister had been saying how she really needed an ereader so I gave it to her unopened on Christmas, and just read on my ipod.

Thanks for the chance to win a kindle! It is very generous for you all to do this! Right now I use a little netbook that had been my son’s first computer. I downloaded the free apps on it. It works good enough until I can manage to get myself a real one. Santa doesn’t bring me presents anymore. 😦 I would rather make sure that everyone else has what they want, so I’ll probably be waiting for a long time. As long as they are happy, the wait will be worth it! brendem7@comcast.net

  59. I am definitely in the market for an ereader. I’m hoping to get one soon. Convenience is a definite factor and also that not all books are available in print form. I can see how non-readers can also help people who aren’t avid readers become one especially if they like tech gadgets.

  60. This is a fun giveaway.

    Thank you for the generosity.

  70. I have a Kindle and Sony reader and they both work well for reading. I SSSSSOOOOO want the Kindle Fire though so I can watch movies and tv shows while in bed. As a quadriplegic, I spend many hours in bed so the video side of the Fire is very appealing. The touch screen would also be beneficial since I don’t have use of my fingers. So I’m very much hoping to win this.

  72. When I chose my ereader, I wanted a unitasker. I picked the Kindle because I liked how the machine functioned. It is still my favorite unitasker. I am now saving up for an iPad. When I travel, I just can’t carry everything with me so the iPad will be the one thing I take! jepebATverizonDOTnet

  73. Happy Black Friday! What a great way to celebrate! Thanks you so much for all these amazing prizes. You guys are truly awesome!

You are right; there are many options available to people who wish to buy eReader but all the options can be quite overwhelming for someone who wants to make the right decision if they’re on a limited budget and don’t want to regret their purchase. I’ve been wanting a Kindle since forever and, since my mum and I are avid Romance readers, all the great books on offer add to the temptation. Thank you for this chance:) Hope you’ve had a splendid day!

  77. E-readers are definitely the way to go now days. I have a Dell Inspiron Duo lap top and it is pretty neat, the screne flips and turns into an ereader which is pretty kewl. Only problem I have with it is that it weighs 10 lbs and I am an older woman with a bone diease and arthritis. I need something lighter and have been checking out the difference between the Kindle Fire and the Nook Pad, they both look nice and have both got great ratings. So I would be happy to have either one.

I think I even read somewhere where the Nook Pad was the IPad’s equal and the Kindle Fire was right there with it as well so either one would be great to get.

I hope you have enjoyed the Black Friday, I stayed home and did my shopping online and have been doing the blog hops which I must say this is the thing to do instead of venturing out to the stores. Lots of great authors to visit and awesome blogs too.
