Excerpt from Mia’s Cop Craving 2 – Double Teamed

Rogan spoke first. “Mia, would you like to shower?”

“Yes.” She unbuttoned her shirt, slowly one button at a time, and let the garment drop to the floor. As she headed down the hallway, she dropped the rest of her clothing, leaving a trail for them to follow.

Both men got into the spirit of the moment and quickly followed Mia’s example. Rogan and Jeff entered the bathroom where Mia had already turned on the taps. Hot steam billowed out of the shower. Mia peered around the edge of the glass, the tips of her hair curling from the moisture. She flashed an inviting smile and disappeared back inside.

Rogan quickly stripped off his remaining clothes, leaving them in a heap on the bathroom floor. He stepped into the tiled shower and disappeared into the steamy mist, leaving Jeff to contemplate his options.

Jeff didn’t consider backing out for a moment, not now that he come this far. He wanted to see Mia. He wanted to touch her, stroke her. He tore off his clothes, anxious to get his hands on her body.

Gabrielle Bisset Shares “Why I Write Alpha Males”

Thanks, Malia, for having me here at your blog today.  As I was thinking of a topic for this post, I was just finishing up a discussion with a reader about Alpha males in which she’d asked me why I love them so much as an author and a reader. The answer to that question is simple:  They’re exciting men.  Alpha males control the situation, dominate the stage, and take care of business.  This is what makes them Alpha.

Growing up, I loved the James Bond movies.  My father would take me to see every one as it came out.  Now as I look back, I chuckle at the idea that I probably wasn’t old enough to watch films like that, but I wasn’t focusing on the sex at the time.  To me, those movies were terrific entertainment because James Bond was such a great character.  In the middle of the worst crisis, he seemed to always have time to charm everyone around him and have a drink—shaken, not stirred.

Bond has always been an Alpha.  Well, except for those movies in the early 90s where they wanted him to be politically correct.  Then he was just a frustrated cool guy.  Not Alpha really.

I was watching X-Men First Class the other day and although I guess I should have seen this before, I realized Magneto is an Alpha.  I was probably thrown off by the fact that he’s usually an old man I can’t help remembering as Gandolf.  I love Ian McKellen, but I’ve never looked at him the way I do most Alphas.  But in First Class, he’s a younger man played by Michael Fassbender, and he’s very much Alpha.

The Alpha male is larger than life, so to be drawn to him is no surprise.  In a variety of ways, all the heroes in my Sons of Navarus series are Alphas.  In Blood Avenged, the first book of the series, Vasilije is quintessential Alpha sexuality.  He’s a hedonist who sees the world as his playground.  As I told a reader the other day, just because he has a HEA at the end of Blood Avenged doesn’t mean he’s changed.  He’s still Alpha; now, he’s just a hedonist devoted to one woman and her pleasure. But his Alpha-ness is still there.

In the second book, Blood Betrayed, readers meet a different Alpha—Saint.  He’s different than Vasilije in that he’s deeper and earthier.  Saint feels things that Vasilije would never even consider, but he’s not an emotional creature as much as a sensual one.  And unlike his predecessor in the series, Saint is very much a male who is all about physical strength.  He exudes power.  That’s what makes him a true Alpha.

I write the kind of men I find attractive.  That’s why my heroes are Alphas.  What woman wouldn’t want a man who can fight off an attacker and then take care of business in the way only a confident, powerful man can?  It’s the stuff of erotic romance, pure and simple.

If you like Alpha male vampires, take a look at Blood Avenged and Blood Betrayed at my website at http://www.gabriellebisset.com/the-sons-of-navarus-series.html You can even read the entire first chapter of Blood Betrayed!

Mia was beyond speech so she showed him what she wanted with her body. Writhing against him, she opened herself fully to everything he wanted to give her, needed her to take. His hands gripped her so fiercely she would later find faint bruises that matched his fingertips.

Rogan took her nipple into his mouth and bit her hard, but didn’t break the skin. Mia stifled a scream. Whether the scream was one of pain or pleasure, she didn’t know.

My New Love – Voice Recognition Software

Yes, it’s true. I have found a new love. Believe it or not, it’s voice recognition software. Years ago, I purchased voice recognition software and I attempted to use it. It didn’t seem to do that great a job and I was disappointed. I’m a fast typist and the software made so many errors that it just wasn’t worth my while.

Recently on one of the writing forums I follow, several writers were raving about voice recognition software. I read the information and wondered if the software had improved but I didn’t really take any action or investigate.

Six weeks ago, I was blessed with the birth of a new child. When that happened, writing came to an absolute standstill. Despite Herculean efforts, I could not get any work done.

One night about 3:00 AM as I was feeding my daughter, that thread on voice recognition crossed my mind. I was desperate. I went back and reread that everyone had said. I was determined to try it.

I dug out a combination headphone/microphone set and decided to start with the Windows built-in voice recognition. I had absolutely no luck. The operating system did not recognize my microphone in the standard microphone jack. A few days went by and it occurred to me maybe I needed a USB microphone. I didn’t think I had one and I didn’t want to buy one. Unbeknownst to me, I’d did have one. I had the microphone from Guitar Hero; it is a USB microphone. I dug it out and plugged it in. Guess what? It works. In fact, I’m using it right now.

I went to the tutorial and was pleasantly surprised at the level of control you could exercise with voice recognition. It went way beyond dictation. Believe me, you cannot help but feel productive if you can feed an infant or fold diapers while simultaneously dictating a blog post, scanning a web page and responding to e-mail.

A few things that I want to do have not worked out. Nevertheless, I am so confident in my newfound skill that I ordered some software and a new USB headset.

Am I getting more writing done?  Yes and no.  I do find I need concentrated times to do real writing, that is to say, fiction. However, I can get a lot of business and personal work done while doing other things. In the last few days, I have finally gotten letters out that have needed to be written for weeks (if not longer). I have managed to catch up on some e-mail correspondence. These are things that were becoming increasingly urgent and when I had to do them, it took away from writing time. My hope is over the long term, dedicated writing time can be used for fiction writing and that my promotion and personal things can be knocked out while I’m doing things around the house.

I think this will be a huge boon to my productivity. What has been successful for you when trying to increase your productivity?

When I stopped to think about what I might write for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Celebration, my mind focused on the diamonds. I’ve never been a huge fan of diamonds. I’m more into natural gemstones like opals and pearls. Diamonds always seemed quite expensive and just a little less interesting.

I actually don’t consider myself a jewelry person at all, despite the fact that I have a huge box filled with jewelry. I do wear jewelry daily – the exact same jewelry. I wear the same earrings for months at a time. I wear the same rings for years at a time.

For example, I wore my high school ring well past high school graduation. Now, this isn’t as bad as it sounds. It is a birthstone ring in a small setting. This ring really represented something to me. I worked for the money and paid for it myself. In addition, it was custom made – one-of-a-kind. I went to several high schools. I had the initials for each school engraved around the stone. By the time I stopped wearing it, the facets on the stone had literally worn away.

In college, the standard ring at my school was an onyx in a gold setting. Like the majority of my classmates, I purchased one and wore it for well over a decade. Eventually, I lost a significant amount of weight and neither school ring fit properly anymore. I planned to get them resized, but I’ve never done it.

Now for quite some time, I’ve been wearing the rings associated with my marriage. For my engagement ring, my husband chose a lovely gold ring with flowers and no stones. I’m not sure it is something I would’ve selected for myself. However, I really love it because he picked it out and it has grown on me. We have matching wedding bands with bamboo etched around the circumference. These we selected together. Both these rings, of course, have a great deal of meaning to me and I wear them always.

Looking back, the history of my rings is almost like a history of my life.

Do you have jewelry like that? Do you have a piece that is tied to a specific event or time in your life? Please feel free to share by leaving a comment.

Tricia Schneider on Being “Seduced by Books”

Today on my blog I am hosting multi-published author Tricia Schneider! She traces her journey from reader to writer.

***

Do you remember the first time you were seduced by a book? The first time you realized you weren’t simply a reader, but an avid reader? I’ve been addicted to reading since my mother introduced me to Dr. Seuss books when I was a child. There was something magical about the day when I realized I didn’t need my mother to read books to me anymore, that I could read them all by myself! Suddenly books previously filled with hidden secrets were revealed to me, I became a master at deciphering the code the letters on these pages made. The library became my best friend, where I could lose myself in shelves of mystery and adventure, and eventually romance.

Like many, many others, I fell in love with the romance genre. I was just a teenager when I discovered my very first Harlequin Historical novel entitled The Romance of the Rose by Claire Delacroix. What magical romance that book contained! Suddenly, I realized that all of the young adult books I had consumed up until then were sadly lacking in the relationship department. Certainly, I read a few where the girl got the guy and he took her to the prom. But, I never read about what happened after the prom!

The delicate intricacies of the relationship between the hero and heroine can best be discovered in a romance novel. Whether the bedroom door remains open or closed, the emotional rollercoaster ride keeps you suspended until the end. Will they get together? Will they surpass those seemingly insurmountable obstacles in their path to finally, at last, be together? The journey the characters make from page one until ‘the end’ keeps me entertained and devoted to my romance novels.

And I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to have read hundreds of these delightful romantic romps! (Working for several years in a bookstore revealed a wide realm of new authors and new books!) I’ve collected books written by my favorite authors, such as Lynn Kurland, Gayle Wilson, Deborah Cooke, Sandra Hill, Maggie Shayne, Deborah Simmons, Julia Quinn, and Katie Macalister just to name a few. These are authors that I will buy whether I know the synopsis of their newest release or not. I’ve been pleasantly pleased by their books in the past and I have faith they will continue to deliver the same exciting romance that I love.

Of course, for some of us, at one point in our journey to the bookshelves to find that next unputdownable novel, we begin to imagine our own untold stories. Suddenly, characters become alive in our brains and speak to us! We are compelled to write their stories down. To learn about them, their relationships, their goals, their passions, their road blocks and how they overcome them. At that point, we’ve crossed the threshold from avid reader to writer! What an incredible adventure that becomes!

And shortly after reading The Romance of the Rose, my own characters began speaking to me, begging for me to write about the story of their romantic path to happily-ever-after. Happily, I’ve been writing romance ever since!

To discover the romantic adventures my characters have taken with me, visit my website http://www.triciaschneider.com or my publisher, The Wild Rose Press.

Here’s a tiny taste from The Witch and the Vampire:

Melora Merriweather is searching for a fellow witch to protect her from a scheming uncle with plans of marriage. When her carriage overturns on her journey, she is rescued by a mysterious man whom she learns is the very person she seeks. But, he’s not the witch she thought he was…

Sebastian Collins should have left for London days ago. Now a snowstorm has trapped him with a woman who has come seeking protection, a woman who intrigues him like no other. And with each passing hour, his hunger for her grows…hunger for her kiss, her caress, and her blood.

Excerpt:

“You are Sebastian Collins? Of Caldwell House?” she asked. Had she made some horrible mistake? Who knew how old this letter might be? There had been no date written on any of them. Could this have come from a previous owner of the single address she had managed to discover leading her here? But, no, it could not be possible. Her dreams never misled her.

“Indeed, I am,” he answered, relieving her fears. He paused briefly, and then continued, “But there is no Mrs. Collins.”

Comprehension dawned. The blush of embarrassment and dread crept up her neck. To her surprise, Mr. Collins stiffened in agitation.

“I-I am truly sorry,” she stated, suddenly understanding his reaction. At least, now it made sense why Mrs. Collins never entered her dreams. “I had not realized she had passed. I apologize for the grief I have surely inflicted on you.”

“No, no,” he said, with a shake of his head. He appeared to have difficulty speaking for a moment until at last, with a deep breath, he reclaimed his composure. Still, he kept his eyes cast down, toward the fire. “You fail to understand. I have never married.”

Melora stared at him. Confused, she looked again at the letter in her hand. “But the letters…?”

This time, his head snapped up, and he looked in her direction. She inhaled sharply at the sight of his light blue eyes staring at her. Into her. Through her. Sharp. Piercing. As if he searched her soul for the answers to his questions.
